Kenzie Shields makes waves
Kenzie Shields was named the Performer of the Meet at the Class A girls state championship meet. The sophomore won the 200 Individual Medley( 2:12.25) and 500 freestyle( 5:11.91) races. Both are school records. This is the second year that Kenzie earned Performer of the Meet honors.
The TA Girls team, winners of the Southwestern Championships, finished fourth in the state meet. Another sophomore, Lucy Perry, won the 200 freestyle( 1:58.05) and 100 breaststroke( 1:07.78).
We caught up with Kenzie for her thoughts on swimming, her teammates, and more:
When did your swimming career begin?

I started swimming when I was 5 years old at the YMCA. My older brother was on the swim team and the coach saw that I was bored just sitting there on the bench. He invited me to swim with the team.
