Alicia Milne ’ 07 dreamed of becoming a lawyer . While studying at the University of Southern Maine , she joined a law firm , first as a receptionist , and eventually became a legal assistant . “ I got to work in all the different areas of law supporting various attorneys in the office . But I quickly realized that law school wasn ’ t for me .”
An opportunity opened at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine , an organization that provides lodging for families close to where their hospitalized child is receiving care . Alicia had volunteered there since age 12 . She formally joined the organization and worked her way up to director of development . “ I like to say that I was able to still use the skill of storytelling - as most lawyers do - and articulating a point or concept , but for a good cause like helping families and their sick children ."
Alicia spent 10 years at Ronald McDonald House , until a job opening caught her eye . The Maine Celtics , Portland ’ s professional basketball team , was looking for a director of corporate partnerships .
Despite never playing sports in school , Alicia applied for the position . “ I really enjoyed corporate partnerships and wanted my next job to have
