The Thornton Academy Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed five individuals and one team during Homecoming Weekend .
The state championship game opponent was South Portland / Freeport / Waynflete , a team with which Thornton Academy had split on the season , including a 5-1 loss at the end of its three-game losing skid . The Red Riots took control of the game early by scoring two goals prior to the first intermission , but a pair of tallies by Gavin Pellerin in the first eight minutes of the second stanza evened the score .
Less than two minutes later , Thornton took the lead for good as Pellerin assisted Jacob Marcotte on the team ’ s third goal of the day . Scores in the final period by Shane Bergeron and Beaudette provided insurance as the Golden Trojans won the game by a final of 5-3 .
Following the season , several members of the Thornton Academy program earned All-State honors from the Class A Coaches Association . Joining Hubbard and Krause on the first team were Kyle Lesieur and Heath McLean . Pellerin and Brady Pecora were accorded second team recognition . Hubbard was also selected by the Maine Sunday Telegram for a slot on its all-state team .
It was the second state championship in the Thornton Academy tenure of head coach Jamie Gagnon , who piloted the 2012 team to the second of back-to-back Class A state titles .
