A ' TRADITION ' RETURNS TO TA
ARTS
The Thornton Academy Players returned to the stage last spring with a first-rate production of the award-winning musical Fiddler on the Roof . The show was our first full-length musical since 2019 , and followed a performance of Hamlet in the fall .
Students from surrounding communities come to Thornton for our strong programs in the visual and performing arts , and the spring musical was a showcase for the outstanding singing , dancing , and acting of the TA Players .
" The show was remarkable ," said Mike Desjardins ' 90 , whose daughter Maddie ' 22 was a bottle dancer . " The school is loaded with talented , artistic students , and Thornton continues to set a new standard for high school theater productions ." The lead role of Tevye , the poor milkman , was played by Jack Tripp , now a senior at TA .
Another senior , Edie Harriman , played The Fiddler , standing on a roof constructed for the production by the crew of Thornton students .
โ Fiddler is a demanding show but our cast and production crew were determined to put on a memorable performance and they succeeded ,โ said Emma Arenstam Campbell โ 04 , Chair of the Arts Department .
The TA Players last presented Fiddler on the Roof in 1981 , and members of that class were in the audience for the Saturday evening show . Andy Cole performed the role of Tevye in that production and loaned Jack his hat from the 1981 show .
