SWING CLASS
One month later and I was back
in class, but this time for my
passion - Golf. Completing Level
1 through the United States Golf
Teachers Federation I got my Affiliate
Certification and a part time teaching
job. A year later and I sat for my Level
2 course and obtained the Associate
Certification. Teaching continued and
my clientele was slowly growing. At
the beginning of 2012 I enrolled for
the Golf Course Operations diploma
online through Selkirk College. I was
living, breathing, eating and sleeping
golf. Mid 2012 I attended the Level
3 Teaching Certification Course in
Maryland. This was a big one, the
one that would confer all teaching
rights unto me. The 10 day intensive
course covered all aspects of the
game, teaching, equipment, mental,
fitness and so much more. I was a
sponge and loving it and it was then
that it hit me that this is what I want
to do for the rest of my life. At the
end of the course, not only did I
obtain my Golf Teaching Professional
Certification but I was awarded the
medalist prize for being top in the
class.
It was at this point that I got into
conversation with dad about moving
back to Kenya and opening Total Golf
Solutionz. I wanted to complete all
my golfing education before moving
back so through 2012 and the first
quarter of 2013 I completed my
online diploma and then in May
2013, I travelled to Port St. Lucie,
Florida to the World Golf Teachers
Federation headquarters to sit for
my final certification, the one that
would give me the knowledge and
ability to train and certify golfers who
would like to become Golf Teaching
Professionals - The Master Golf
Teaching Certification. It was the
most intense two weeks of training I
have ever gone through but I made
it. Kenya here I come!
Setting up total Golf Solutionz was
blood sweat and tears but I wouldn’t
have it any other way. It’s like golf! In
2014, I took advantage of a holiday
to the USA to get some knowledge
and develop my skills on club fitting
and equipment repair at the Mitchell
Golf School essentially completing
my golfing education for the time
being.
So back to this crazy game called
Golf.
Over the next few months I hope
to share with you some of my
knowledge and experiences about
this game to empower you, the
golfers, to get the most from your
golf instruction, understand the
demands of your golf equipment,
bring to light some of the mental
aspects of golf (its demands at
amateur and competitive levels) and
hopefully turn a few of you into golf
junkies along the way.
The next episode of This crazy game
called Golf, will focus on how you,
the golfer can get the most out of
your golf instruction.
