SWING CLASS This Crazy Game called Golf. since then. It quickly became my primary sport through my schooling years. Attending university in London to study Microbiology, golf slowed down to the summer months or holidays back here. To compensate for this, I made frequent visits to golf shops under the pretext of “wanting to test the equipment” in order to hit some golf balls (you know you would too, especially when you get to try out the latest offerings). After graduating with a BSc, my road took me to Kisumu for my first job at the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). Kisumu was incredible and I got my golf game back at Nyanza Club. Further education took me back to London to pursue my Master’s degree. Once again back to the golf shops, but this time golf simulators and launch monitors were making their way into retail. This was a real eye opener for me and my golf. Numbers, data, it was like a light bulb went off in my head. By Anokh Jai T his is a crazy game!! And we’re even crazier to continue playing it. The game is filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Few golfers have experienced the adrenaline rush of that round of golf. And then what, you’re up at the crack of dawn the next day ready to tear the course apart just like you did 36 yesterday, but not today. Golf has plans to humble you today. Or does it? Greetings and Salutations Golfers, before we get started on this journey together; a journey that will hopefully help to demystify this crazy game called golf, allow me to take some time to introduce myself. My name is Anokh Jai and I’ve been diagnosed as a golf junkie. My introduction to golf was 25 years ago by my Father and I’ve been hooked My next stop was the United States of America. After graduating with an MSc in Control of Infectious diseases I landed a job with Pfizer Inc. at the beginning of 2008. What made this even better was the golf course right next door. Two years later and I quit my job. I had enough of the sciences so beginning of 2010 I moved in with my uncle and aunt in New Jersey. Summer came and I found the nearest driving range. One day I dragged my cousin along to teach him how to play and at the end of our session, the local pro asked if I had thought about teaching golf as they had a Level 1 Teaching Certification program going on the following month.
