T-OFF July - Sept 2019 | Page 29

KGU lost by a margin of only one point picking an average of 14 points per match. With only four rounds remaining, the league table is indeed looking unfamiliar. Perennial winners Railway Golf Club are languishing in position 8! It is worth noting that Railway won the competition in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Thika, Vetlab, Sigona and Golf Park have maintained their fine form and are still in contention. The 2019 Nairobi District League is being run under new rules. Among the changes introduced this year is the exclusion of the tier system which did away with the erstwhile leagues- Super, Main and Subsidiary. Under the new rules, all clubs are required to field a minimum of 15 teams with each team playing for maximum two points. There are 30 maximum points per round. All players play of their full handicap subject to 90% of handicap difference. There’s no strokes limit and clubs are not allowed to play Honorary members. As the competition enters the home stretch, it will be interesting to see whether Team Royal will cling to the top spot and stem off the challenge from the chasing pack. Some of the interesting upcoming fixtures that might determine the destination of the trophy include Limuru v Royal, Vetlab v Golf Park, Muthaiga v Thika, Vetlab v Thika and Sigona v Royal. The jury is still out.
