Me and my unique PERSONALITY
By José Armando Avila
We, human beings, have a personality that is unique. Each person is original and irreplaceable. A person is not something, an object or a subject, because we are a someone living in this world. We should give ourselves a place on Earth because we exist for something.
What is personality? Personality is the image of a person. It’s the behavior shown in a certain context of social circumstances. Personality is not something that’s hereditary, we get our personality by living experiences throughout our environment. Hereditary means that something is genetic such as emotions or our temperaments, but in this case it is environmental, which means that is something you acquire through time, like values, beliefs, expectations, and our goals.
Several people in the world had some incredible theories of personality. This was meant to help us to discover ourselves and choose what is supposed to be better for us, such as who should I have friendships with or how should I control myself. Some of this people are Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Gordon Allport, Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow, Jean Piaget, and B.F. Skinner. This guys are really important because thanks to them we know how our mind works if we’re talking about personalities.
Sigmund Freud is known as the father of psychoanalysis and his
main idea was that "the forces of the unconscious form behavior
along with human thought." He then invented the three levels o
f consciousness which are: conscious (is everything we are aware),
preconscious (something that we will remember for a few amount
of time), and unconscious (stuff we cannot control or tolerate).
Freud as well developed the stages of the psychosexual
development that happen until we get to the 18 years old
. This stages are: Oral, Anal, Phalic, Latency, and Genital.
All in order.
