CONFIDENCE AND OPPORTUNITIES

WHY DID YOU JOIN HOSA?

I joined HOSA my senior year of high school. I was enrolled in a Health Careers Education class that allowed me to earn my CNA certification. HOSA was co-curricular with the class, but I had no idea when I joined that HOSA would open up so many doors for me.

WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING STATE OFFICE?

Being a state officer was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. If you have even a passing thought that you might want to be a state officer, definitely go for it. It was difficult for me to take so much time from school and work during the term, but it worked out as it taught me how to manage my time, which is a skill you'll need for your entire life.

AS A COLLEGE STUDENT DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR POST SECONDARY STUDENTS?

In college, what you put in determines what you get out of it. This is true of your grades and your extracurriculars. My recommendation for new college members is to remember that balance is the key. When it comes to participating in HOSA, balancing time and resources is what will be required for a successful chapter.

WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF HOSA?

I am going into my sophomore year at Arizona State University, studying Biological Sciences. I also play the violin, and next year I will be playing with the ASU Philharmonic Orchestra. In my remaining time outside of school, I work part-time at McDonald's and volunteer in the Bottle Baby nursery at the Arizona Humane Society.
