Meet the 2018 Celebrating Women’s Stories Honorees Representative Gail Chasey State Representative Gail Chasey is serving her 11th term in the New Mexico House of Representatives. Representative Chasey is Chair of the House Judiciary Committee and co-chairs the Courts, Corrections & Justice Interim Committee. In addition to the 2009 repeal of the death penalty, Representative Chasey has successfully sponsored legislation to eliminate filing fees for victims of domestic violence, end discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and expand community corrections. Gail Chasey works as a sole practitioner, focusing primarily as a court- appointed attorney in abuse and neglect cases. Click the picture to hear more of her story. Professor David Stout David Stout serves as a lecturer at the University of New Mexico School of Law. Professor Stout returned to the law school following 28 years as a trial lawyer representing individuals who had been physically or financially injured by the negligence or wrongful conduct of others. He has chaired numerous Supreme Court committees. He is currently the Chair of the Code of Professional Conduct Committee and is the Co-Chair of the New Mexico State Bar Lawyer's Assistance Committee, a group that seeks to help lawyers struggling with addiction, depression and other conditions that interferes with their professional and personal lives. Click the picture to hear more of his story. Dr. Corrine Sanchez Dr. Corrine Sanchez Tewah Towah from San Ildefonso Pueblo is Executive Director of Tewa Women United. She helped develop the cultural and linguistic-based model used to respond and intervene in sexual violence when it occurred in Indian County to help with healing children, youth and adult survivors of domestic violence. Dr. Sanchez is a Forensic Interview with over 14 year experience. Dr. Sanchez has worked to help end sexual violence for over 20 years and helped refine Tewa Women United’s awareness and healing intervention known as “Trauma Rocks”. Dr. Sanchez is dedicated to family and community healing, youth development, and ending violence against women, girls and Mother Earth. Click the picture to hear more of her story.
