Indian Ridge , we designed a low , fine-textured , native sedge and wildflower mosaic . Represented here by precedent imagery , these herbaceous plantings will be installed following path widening and the planting of trees and shrubs . Unlike turf , the sedge-wildflower mosaic will respond to variations in tree composition and other patterns along Indian Ridge . As a result , there will be shifts in tone and experience , such as in a piece of music . The same note played repeatedly is monotonous while variations on a theme create a richer , nuanced experience . The herbaceous plantings will also not be mown , save an end-of-season cutback to provide for emerging growth in the spring .

At the northern end of Indian Ridge , where oaks and pines dominate , Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ’ s lot is notable .
