Another memorable moment at the Cemetery was on a particularly sunny but cold day last October. I was at work when I received some discouraging results regarding a recent medical test. I was having trouble concentrating, so I ended up leaving work shortly afterward. I walked straight to the Cemetery, put on my favorite playlist, and began to meander around. So many“ what if” thoughts rushed through my head. Then, as I passed the Mary Baker Eddy monument, I spotted a Great Blue Heron. I wasn ' t even looking for him this time! But there he was, so calm and majestic. I spent almost an hour just watching and filming him. He stood so tall and still, patiently watching and waiting for his prey. And then, in one quick motion, he swooped down and caught his prize! During those brief moments, all that had been weighing on me was gone. I remember thinking how wonderful it was to have such a serene place where I could just go and have my worries disappear, even if just for a short time. I hope that others going through a difficult time might also come here and experience some of the same feelings of peace and comfort … and of healing the mind and soul.
