Besides the rare trees, flowers, and wildlife for which Mount Auburn Cemetery is so notable, there is also, obviously, the multitude of graves. I love how the gravestones tell their silent stories. There is a grand mixture of old and new stones; some humble and others ostentatious, some historical and others ordinary. More importantly for me, the graves of precious family members are there. I visit them often and think about how happy my Nunnie would be to know that just inside the front gate, opposite the fountain, there are Zinnias blooming throughout the summer. I relish the thought of how awe-struck Dad would be at the sight of a Red-tailed Hawk soaring against a bright blue sky. I imagine how he would chuckle at the sight of a family of muskrats scurrying along Willow Pond. I love that no matter what season I visit, I always find so much beauty and wonder. I especially cherish the fact that I have family here to visit. I know that they would enjoy and appreciate the bountiful, exquisite beauty of their final resting place as much as I do.
