ong anticipated enhancements are
L underway to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety around Story Chapel
and the Administration Building . This spring we will begin work on an accessible walkway linking our Administration Building with Story Chapel , and continuing around to the Columbarium in the lower level of the chapel . For the first time , visitors and staff will be able to travel between the buildings on a sidewalk separated from vehicular traffic at our main entrance . The project will be completed with new plantings appropriate to the beauty of our main entrance area . Visitors to the columbarium will approach the lower level of the building by a gently sloped walkway through a landscaped garden that invites reflection along the way .
Additional steps to improve safety near our main entrance will include new pedestrian gates at strategic locations along Mt . Auburn St . These new entrances will separate guests visiting the Cemetery by foot or public transportation from cars entering the auto gates at our historic Gateway . Entrances are under consideration opposite Aberdeen St ., Brattle St ., and at Coolidge Avenue . Planning for these pedestrian gates is in process , and construction is targeted for this summer .
