Primary Source Visit

On Saturday , September 17th , friends and supporters of Primary Source visited the Cemetery for a tour and discussion about the diverse history of Mount Auburn and the importance of teaching accurate and inclusive U . S . history . Primary Source is a nonprofit organization based Watertown , MA , that works to advance global education in schools .

Open House and The Oak Cycle

On Saturday , September 24th , Mount Auburn ’ s 191st Anniversary , a few hundred visitors explored Bigelow Chapel during an open house where volunteers were on hand to talk about the art and architecture of the building . Afterwards another hundred people enjoyed Artist-in-Residence musician Ira Klein ’ s performance of compositions inspired by Mount Auburn ’ s historic oaks , The Oak Cycle . Dance of Arrival

To close the art filled anniversary weekend , on Sunday , September 25th , and Monday , September 26th , Artist-in- Residence , dancer and choreographer Liz Walker performed her Dance of Arrival accompanied by live music to two sold out audiences . Liz had previously performed Dance of Arrival in May before giving birth to her daughter .

Over My Dead Body

On Friday , October 28th , Cemetery President & CEO Matthew Stephens joined author Greg Melville for a discussion of his new book Over My Dead Body : Unearthing the Hidden History of America ’ s Cemeteries at Harvard Bookstore .
