supporting the community Get Down and Dirty! Filthy 50 Top athlete Camille Leblanc-Bazinet is a household name for CrossFit fans, and it’s clear she’s had an influence not only in the realm of fitness but fashion as well! Let’s talk about another Leblanc-Bazinet, her brother Alexis and his contributions to the sport of CrossFit. Filthy 50 began in 2011 with a clear mission: to provide every CrossFitter and CrossFit affiliate with high-quality workout gear. It’s doubtful that CrossFit was your first sport or athletic endeavour. So you likely had some awareness about what to wear and could dress for the occasion moderately well. Well, that might work for the average gym or class, but if there’s one thing CrossFit does NOT do well, it’s moderation. In July 2011, Alexis Leblanc-Bazinet and Maxime Casavant, who are also co-owners of CrossFit Brossard, launched their awesome clothing store, specifically designed to fit the needs of the CrossFit community. Not surprisingly, their shop and services stand out above the rest! Unlike most retailers, the Filthy 50 provides custom artwork that isn’t outsourced, offering the opportunity to enjoy creative and unique clothing that flatters the CrossFit figure. Shortly after opening, they even acquired their own stock printing shop: “We do everything, from the designs and logos to screen printing,” says the pair. “We are presently trying to develop a lot of new products (like) socks, bands, and new shorts for men and women.” For now, you’ll have to be satisfied with the 100-plus products divided equally between men and women: accessories, hoodies, long sleeve shirts, pants, t-shirts, and WOD shorts. While you’re at it, add the entry fee for one or all of The Big League events to your shopping cart. The Big League is the first CrossFit League with 6 events in 6 months; get involved, accumulate points at each event and then shoot for the finals to be held in January 2014. Staying involved at the local level is an important element of Filthy’s ongoing growth. But even more exciting is the high level of exposure created by the large number of competitors who use their products: Simon Paquette, Matthieu Dubreucq, Pascal Baillargeon, Jonathan Laniel, J-M Riendeau, Isabelle Tardif, Jessica Cote-Beaudoin, Alexandra Bergeron—all Top 10 athletes at this year’s Regionals. Alexis and Maxime do all they can to encourage local events and to support athletes who promote the sport, too. When a box contacts them they often can finagle some freebies for their event. “It is not easy trying to (keep up) with the big guys . . . but we like the challenge and are looking forward to growing bigger. HARD WORK PAYS OFF!” Ain’t that the truth.? [ 32 www.filthy50.com [email protected] ] W W W. S W E AT R X M A G . C O M July/August 2013 40.Profile_Filthy50_SRX_JulyAug13.indd 32 7/11/13 12:02 AM
