Hello. I am Antonia and I welcome you to our news bulletin on Air and Water Pollution in Romania
Everybody breathes air and drinks water, but we rarely stop to think how safe these habits are.Air pollution and water pollution caused by industry are serious environmental problems in Romania. The country’s factories emit high levels of pollutants. Much of the nation’s industrial runoff ends up in the Danube river system, making water unsafe for drinking and threatening the diverse ecosystems of the Danube delta.
This is why we are going to take a look at the situation of air and water pollution in Romania.

In some Romanian cities people use trolleybuses and tramwaysfor transportation, which are less polluting than cars.

The air is especially good to breathe in Cluj-Napoca, a city in the centre of Romania. In 2014 Cluj Napoca was named the city with the cleanest air in Europe. The ranking was published by the "Respire" Association and used the database of the European Environmental Agency.
Cluj-Napoca also has the most modern water treatment plant, working with biogas from sewage sludge and which produces green energy.
3.Have there been any changes recently?
During the past 15 years the level of river pollution has decreased considerably in Romania due to the use of modernised water treatment plants. This trend is visible on this chart.
