what is a
Survivors Rising?
ON OR AROUND SEPTEMBER 26, 2026, a national committee of survivors, advocates, artists, and movement leaders is calling on communities across the United States to organize SURVIVORS RISINGS, locally organized gatherings where communities come together in solidarity with survivors to disrupt the injustice and build a future where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered. Every community is different, and every Rising should reflect the unique needs, voices, and vision of those organizing it.
Option 1:
A Public Rising
Bring your community into public space to raise awareness, stand in solidarity with survivors, and call for justice and accountability. A public Survivors Rising makes visible the scale of survivor experience while inviting others to take action. This could be a rally, march, or public gathering.
Ideas include:
● Collective singing of“ We Rise” to express resilience, hope, and unity
● Speakers, artists, musicians, or poets
● Information tables featuring local survivor-serving organizations and resources
There is no single way to rise. Whether your gathering is private or public, what matters most is that it centers survivors and contributes to a growing movement for justice, accountability, healing, and transformation.
Option 2:
A Healing Gathering
Create an intimate, survivorcentered space for healing, reflection, and connection. These gatherings may be held in a home, community center, or other welcoming environment and can incorporate creative activities that support healing and community.
Ideas include:
● Poetry or creative writing prompts
● Community art-making, collage, or painting
● Music, meditation, or gentle movement
● Candle-lighting or remembrance rituals
● Resource sharing and mutual aid
The emphasis is not on telling one’ s story, but on creating a space where survivors feel supported, connected, and cared for.
Option 3:
A Virtual Rising
Join the nationwide online action by sharing a post in solidarity with survivors. Every post helps make visible the millions of survivors calling for justice, accountability, and healing.
Ideas include:
● Share a piece of artwork, poetry, music, or another creative expression inspired by your journey or your hopes for a world free from violence.
● Share a message of solidarity explaining why you are rising and your vision for justice, accountability, and healing.
