Once completed two from each zone qualified for the quarter finals which were once again held at Pyrford Golf Club who for the sixth year in succession were hosting the Quarter Final, Semi Final & Final, so a big thanks from Surrey Golf to all at Pyrford. The Quarter Finalists were; U14 Age Group: Bramley, Burhill, Camberley Heath, Cuddington, Farnham, Horton Park, Walton Heath and Wentworth. U18 Age Group: Bramley A, Bramley B, Burhill, Cuddington A, Cuddington B, Foxhills, Horne Park, and West Byfleet. As per the zone stage the knock out stages of the competition proved to be extremely competitive and tight with several matches going to play off holes in both age groups. The Semi-Finals were; U14 Age Group: Cuddington v Walton Heath and Burhill v Wentworth. Both Semi-Finals went to extra sudden death holes with Walton Heath winning at the 2nd extra hole and Wentworth winning at the 1st extra hole. U18 Age Group: Cuddington v Horne Park and Burhill v Foxhills, with Horne Park and Foxhills winning through to the Final. Some of the play in the Finals was wonderful to watch, with every player really giving it their all and each match played in great spirit. In the end Wentworth team of Rocky Chapman, Daniel Prince, Jasper Cox & Jason Chan took the U14 trophy and the Foxhills team of Alexandra Jakins, Rhys Williams, Abbi Rowland & Charlotte Benford winning the U18 trophy. Congratulations to both teams and congratulations to all the players who took part and represented their clubs so well. Also, a big thank you to all the volunteers for their help and support. Wentworth – the 2018 U14 Rookie League winners and Foxhills – the 2018 U18 Rookie League winners. Finally, Well Done to all the players who took part and represented their Clubs so well. RookieTour by Bob Lacey The NIKEGOLF ROOKIETOUR was created to broaden the competitive experience of the Under 14 age group of boys and girls within Surrey. RookieTour Committee: Bob Lacey (Chair), Peter Barratt, Dan McSweeney, Paul Olrog, Kerry Olrog, Brian Woodham, Peter Millham The Tour aims to: • Act as a player pathway to the mainstream junior opens • Provide a competitive element appropriate to age • Give competitive experience outside of home clubs • Build team spirit and friendship within peer group • Give an entry route to competition for boys and girls with or without handicaps • Allow identification of talent for Surrey coaching and Surrey junior teams • Provide fun through structured competition on both 9 hole par 3 courses and full 18 hole competitions From its conception in 2007 the tour continues to develop and evolve and 2018 was no exception. The 2018 tour saw an average entry of 92 players per event. The Young Improvers Group (YIGS) for those U13 boys and girls who are just starting out, saw average event entries of 48 players. - 30 -
