So let me give you a quick review of the 10 tips given by Megan Tough. FIRST: GET A REALITY CHECK Asking for feedback is the simplest explanation I can give, because knowing what other think about you is one of the most powerful driver for change. n my 3 years of staying in this university, I have witness transition of government from one to another. And until now questions are running on my mind. What it takes to be a good leader? Is the physical appearance included in the requirements or how famous the leader is? The article start with a simple question, have you ever heard someone say, “Actually, I have to admit that I think I am really bad at managing other people. My staff all hate me and I’m incapable of doing my job.” The answer for this question is definitely no. No one will say this because they don’t believe it, or because they don’t want to appear incompetent. And as I can see, there are few leaders out SECOND: DON’T USE THE POWER OF YOUR POSITION TO MAKE THINGDS DONE Never ever ask used power in getting things done, because sometimes your follower may not agree with your decision. It doesn’t mean that you’re the leader, you always have the right decision. THIRD : DON’T THINK EMPLOYEES AS THINGS THAT NEED TO BE CONTROLLED OR MANAGE Trust is a vital component of leadership. So as a leader you should trust your people to do their jobs. And do not try to control them, because in the first place they are not robot for you to control. FOURTH : LISTEN, LISTEN,LISTEN A good leader is also a good listener. This a common problem of a leader, they don’t listen even if people are trying to tell them that their team is encountering a problem. He is not deaf, but he wasn’t able to hear them. FIFTH: STOP PROVIDING SOLUTIONS If your team is encountering problems, give your people a chance to provide solution and do not tell them what to do. Sometimes this could boost their self-esteem, because they were able to fix problem by their own. Turn to page 9
