PAPERS PRIZE 2016
OPEN TO ALL QUEENSLAND MEDICAL STUDENTS AND INTERNS
FIRST PRIZE $ 1000
• The annual RACS Queensland State Committee- Papers Day is open to all medical students and itnerns for presentation on a surgical topic
• The 2016 opening date for submission is Monday 9 May 2016 and submissions close at 5pm on Wednesday 31 August 2016
• Abstracts will be reviewed by a comittee. Selected papers will be invited to present at the heats which will be conducted in mid-September( TBA) at the RACS Office( Level 2, 59 Shafston Avenue, KANGAROO POINT)
• The selected 4 best submissions will present 10 minute presenation at the Queensland State Committee Annual Conference at Brisbane City Hall, on Saturday 5 November 2016. Your travel and accommodation arrangements will be met by the Committee
• You will be required to submit an abstract by way of application for the prize. Abstracts must conform strictly to stated requriements. Abstract must be of a high standard to meet the selection criteria.
• The adjudicators for the RACS Papers Prize are looking for original thought, innovation and topical subject matter
• The convenor of the RACS Papers Prize is Queensland State Committee member Associate Professor Praga Pillay
ABSTRACT INSTRUCTIONS
• Abstracts must be submitted electronically to Thalia Nguyen( thalia. nguyen @ surgeons. org)
• The abstract must include- Title- Author- Institution of Origin
• The body of the abstract must contain- A sentence stating the purpose of the study- A brief description of methods- Summary of results- Statement of conclusions( It is not satisfactory to state that results will be
discussed)
• The content of the abstract must not exceed 200 words.
• Abbreviation should be used only for common terms. For uncommon terms, the abbreviation should be given after the first full use of the words.
• Maximum of 2 References may be included at the end of the abstract but must be included within the 200 words limit
