EDUCATION AND TRAINING
In 2013, Surfing Queensland continued to
deliver education and training throughout
our network largely thanks to a combination
of programs subsidised by the Queensland
Government and the Australian Sports
Commission.
Surfing Queensland’s commitment to support
and nurture official development at all levels
of the sport delivered programs such as the
Coaching Participation Program whereby
subsidised Level 1 Coaching courses was
provided for two members of each affiliated
Boardriders Club.
Thanks to this initiative, the Boardriders Club
experienced a rapid expansion of officials.
Surfing Queensland then provided direct funding
to those Boardriders Clubs to assist with the
delivery of consistent grassroots coaching
sessions across Queensland beaches with
exceptional results being achieved.

In conjunction with Surfing Australia, Surfing
Queensland also delivered subsidised Level One
Judging courses throughout 2013 with each
affiliated Boardriders Club able to nominate
a participant to attend. This coincided with a
host of other training and education courses
delivered throughout the year, including the
introduction of the stand up paddleboarding
(SUP) flat-water accreditation, which is
recognised under the National Coaching
Accreditation Scheme. Surfing Australia and
Surfing Queensland are currently working on
a nationally accredited Level 1 bodyboarding
course which is due for completion by mid 2014.
