St Isaac’s Cathedral in St Petersburg, now easier to get to than ever.
FROM TURKISH AIRLINES
WITH LOVE
Multiple destinations in Russia are
now closer to South Africans thanks
to new flights launched by Turkish
Airlines. The airline recently introduced
three weekly flights between Istanbul
and Samara and twice-weekly flights
between Istanbul and Voronezh. The
new routes will further open up Russia
to South Africans using Turkish Airlines’
daily direct flights from Cape Town
and Johannesburg to Istanbul. This is
in addition to the airline’s twice-weekly
flights to Astrakhan and Novosibirsk,
and several weekly flights to Moscow
and St Petersburg.
FIND LOVE EN ROUTE
Gone are the days when single
travellers would have to rely on a bit of
luck and perhaps some Dutch courage
to have a holiday romance, meet a

travelling partner or even a
life partner. Now lonely hearts
can find a suitable partner via a
dedicated dating site.
Called MissTravel, it’s the world’s
first dating website specifically
targeting singles with a serious case of
wanderlust. MissTravel has more than
600 000 members from 135 countries
and allows users to register the kind
of trips they are interested in under
categories ranging from gourmet
to adventure. There are essentially
three options for meeting like-minded
travellers to see whether romance
will bloom: “Travel With Me” is for
real risk-takers willing to undertake a
trip with a total stranger; “Show Me
Your Town” allows users to be shown
around by a love interest; and “Come
To Me” enables users to play host to a
love interest.
If you haven’t signed up for the site
and find yourself already on a flight,
don’t despair: there’s now an app that
allows you to
search for suitable
people en route to the
same destination. The free
app is called AirDates and works by
uploading ticket data onto your dating
profile. The app then shows you people
en route to the same destination who
match your preferences. Before you
board, connect with people of interest
and, if there’s a spark, continue to chat
in the air in flight mode via Bluetooth
or WiFi on aircraft that have in-flight
connectivity. The app definitely injects
new meaning into the old phrase “love
is in the air”.
WHERE IN THE WORLD AM I?
I’m made up of two strings of coral
island chains between Africa and India.
My dominant religion is Islam. Surfers,
honeymooners and divers love me.
