When you’re cruising in style through multiple countries, there’s no need to pack and unpack
every few days. Rather, lie back (in your suite or in the on-board indoor pool) and soak it all in.

adventure? But he persisted. He’d never
been, after all, and had zero interest in
sunbathing, wildlife viewing or tents of
any kind – no matter how glamorous. It
was one of many battles I am likely to

With our destination settled, we set
about deciding which countries we
would most like to visit and what kind of
experience would yield best value. The
rand, after all, would not go far in Europe.
Germany, Italy and France topped Jean
Luc’s bucket list; Hungary, Montenegro or
Portugal were high on mine.
But with only three weeks and no desire
for a whirlwind trip that would leave us
more exhausted than relaxed, we began
exploring “slow travel” options that would
suit us both. At the end of an exhaustive
Google search, a river cruise seemed to
tick all the boxes.
Not only would this allow us to visit
multiple countries without having to
pack-and-unpack every few nights, we
