Lesson  2:  Characterisation     Subject:  English   Year  Level:  4   Lesson  Duration:  1  Hour     General  Information:   The  lesson  will  be  held  in  the  classroom.     A  projector  or  smart  board  will  be  needed  in  order  to  show  the  students  the  example   sheet  (if  this  is  not  available  the  sheet  can  be  printed).       Intended  Learning  Outcomes/Purpose:   • Create  literary  texts  by  developing  storylines,  characters  and  settings   (ACARA)   • Plan,  draft  and  publish  imaginative,  informative  and  persuasive  texts   containing  key  information  and  supporting  details  for  a  widening  range  of   audiences,  demonstrating  increasing  control  over  text  structures  and   language  features  (ACARA)   • Understand  how  texts  vary  in  complexity  and  technicality  depending  on  the   approach  to  the  topic,  the  purpose  and  the  intended  audience  (ACARA)   • Create  literary  texts  that  explore  students’  own  experiences  and  imagining   (ACARA)   • Discuss  how  authors  and  illustrators  make  stories  exciting,  moving  and   absorbing  and  hold  readers’  interest  by  using  various  techniques,  for  example   character  development  and  plot  tension  (ACARA)   • Use  materials,  techniques  and  processes  to  explore  visual  conventions  when   making  artworks  (ACARA)     • By  the  end  of  this  lesson,  the  students  should  have  an  understanding  of   characterisation.         Prior  Learning  and  Experiences:   Prior  to  this  lesson,  the  students  would  have  explored  different  comics  and  the   characters  in  these  comics.  The  students  also  would  have  formed  their  pairs  and   would  have  brainstormed  ideas  for  their  comics  and  superheroes.  This  is  vital  to  the   lesson  as  work  needs  to  start  on  the  creation  of  the  superhero  in  their  pairs.
