A Day in the life of a Visual Merchandiser.
Firstly, the base of a visual merchandisers work would be about creating displays in the windows and in store. The creation of the window display would not only revolve around an individuals own concept to draw the customers in but visual merchandisers would have to incorporate things such as seasons or public holidays. VMs aim to create new and innovative window and mannequin concepts daily. This constantly keeps the store looking fresh.
At the beginning of your usual 6.30am start way before the 9am store opening, visual merchandisers will have meetings to check sales reports on previous mannequins to see which mannequin made the most and least sales so they know whether or not to keep it up. Furthermore, They would also discuss what changes they will make to their store later on in the week.
Being a visual merchandiser, you will work have to work in a team - especially because visual merchandising is quite physical, e.g. when creating the window display it involves painting walls, moving furniture/props, using ladders etc. It is also the VMs responsibility to ensure that throughout the day all stock is restocked on the floor which means ensuring all sizes are available to the customer, however, having too much stock on a rail would make it seem messy.
Connecting to working in a team, you must keep a solid communication between your merchandising team and the head office/management so they can keep track of what work you have completed, what work you will have to complete and how they feel you need to improve in your work.
