Feb. 21 W 70-60
at Elk River Champlin Park boys hockey excelled
to a 20-7 overall record this season and
nearly shared the Northwest Suburban
North Conference title with Totino
Grace, fi nishing two points behind the
Eagles.
That helped the Rebels earn a No. 3
seed in the 5AA section playoffs and
a second opportunity to upset sixth-
ranked and second-seeded Maple Grove
in the semifi nals on Feb. 23 after knock-
ing off No. 6 Anoka 2-0 on Feb. 21.
However, Champlin Park couldn’t
overcome a furious attack by the Crim-
son in a 4-2 loss at Champlin Ice Forum.
The Rebels also lost games to third-
ranked Blaine and fourth-ranked Ando-
ver in Class 2A and to Class 1A third-
ranked Totino-Grace, but they were 20-2
against unranked teams.
And it was the fi rst 20-win season since
in over a decade.
A strong senior class was key to the
success this season. Forwards Derek
Roberts (38 goals, 14 assists), Jack Karg-
es (11 goals, 22 assists), Ayden Grant
(11 goals, 14 assists), Rylen Anderson
(4 goals, 12 assists) and Brett Sullivan
(8 goals, 7 assists) all fi nished with dou-
ble-digit points, and defensemen Adam
Brenny (2 goals, 8 assists), Samuel Lee
(8 assists) and Carter Cain (2 assists) also
helped the offense.
Forward Blake Loughrey didn’t play
as many minutes as the rest, but also
reached the stat sheet with a goal in 16
games.
And Brennan Boynton was also one of
the best goalies in the state, fi nishing 18-6

The Osseo boys hockey

5AA section quarterfinal.
The eighth-seeded Ori-

lowed four goals before
scoring with under three
