Orioles send three to state By BOB SAN Coming up sunpressnews@ecm-inc.com Junior Isaac Omland, sophomore Jag- ger Schack and freshman Jacob Meissner are headed to state following their perfor- mances on Feb. 23 in the 5AAA individual wrestling section at St. Michael-Albertville High School. The Orioles opened the tournament with a perfect start when all their wrestlers won in the fi rst round. “This is something that hasn’t happened in quite some time at a tournament,” Osseo assistant coach Kenny Green said. Isaac Omland, Jagger Schack and Jacob Meissner will represent Osseo from Friday-Saturday, March 1-2, in the AA individual wrestling tournament at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Lee also looked to fi n- ish the season strong in a very tough competition with had some of the best scores in state history. Lee started her night on the fl oor exercise, and she performed well with a 9.175 score. But in a fi eld that including Champlin Park sophomore Chaney Neu, Eagan junior Tea- gan Ramboldt and Still- water senior Gretchen Sharp, that score ended up being 42nd overall. Lee fi nished state on the vault, and the competi- tion was even fi ercer than on the fl oor, as Champlin Park’s Neu won the event with the fi rst ever 10.0 score in state history. Lee had her best fi n- ish on the vault with a 9.375, and that was good enough for 34th place. The Pirates earned 10 medals out of 14 weight classes, including junior Alvin Vue (113 pounds) who finished third. Junior Gbolahan Oye- tunde (170) also reached the podium with a fourth-place finish, and juniors Lucas Lee (152) and Jonathan Oyedo- kun (145) took fifth. Juniors Abel Vue (120) and Zeph Yang (126) and freshmen Samson Oyedokun (132), Is- mael Kante (138), Sam Paye (220) and Adam Adeboye (heavyweight) also medaled with sixth- place finishes. Alvin Vue’s lone loss came in a 9-3 decision to Wayzata’s Kyler Wong. Oyetunde (9-12) was pinned in 5 minutes, 7 seconds by Rogers’ Gavin Eicher in his third-place match. He won a 17-6 major deci- sion against Wayzata’s Elliot Omlid and a 6-3 decision to Mound- Westonka’s Brock Mun- sterteiger earlier in the meet. Lee (9-13) pinned Os- seo’s Vincent Toleno in 1:16 in his fifth-place match. Seniors Kaiyre Lewis (182 pounds), Dillon Os- berg (120), Varney Con- neh (152) and Santino Stephens (220), junior Joe Tullberg (126) and sopho- mores Zion Jessee (145) and Gavin Rosstedt (195) all placed in the top six in their weight classes. Lewis (13-15) came the closest to making state. He defeated Blaine’s Brandon Wagner 7-3 in the conso- lation semifi nal and also knocked off Forest Lake’s Daniel Fagerstrom 11-6 in the third-place match. Lewis fell 2-0 to St. Francis’ Joey Lipinski in the quarterfi nals, but he bounced back with a 9-5 decision over Cambridge- Isanti’s Jacob Maurer in the consolation bracket. Osberg lost a 10-2 major decision to Coon Rapids’ Jon Svobodny in his third- place match, but he pinned Cambridge-Isanti’s Gavin Hajek in 3 minutes, 53 seconds in the consola- tion semifi nals. Osberg also pinned Blaine’s Luke Studor in 4:56 in the quar- terfi nals.
