LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear Members ,
Leading into October , the golf maintenance staff is enjoying the slightly cooler morning temperatures . Work on cart path transition areas have begun as well as refreshing coquina beds . Pine straw replenishment on specific bed areas will soon be in full swing . Turtle Run staff has been working on some of the washouts along lake banks such as hole # 14 and are currently working on hole # 16 . Tree work is coming to an end for this season except for grinding all the debris , such as on hole # 12 Deer and the driving range area .
As we work our way out of summertime , we are focused on turf health on both courses . Additional cart traffic from single cart riders is a concern heading into season . You will see much more in the way of stakes and rope on the two courses this season to try and survive with some turf in the high traffic areas .
During this month , staff on both courses will be working on detail items . They will also be working on the remaining annual weed pressure that is mostly in the form of Tropical Signal grass . The overall turf health on greens remains strong and staff will be working on speed and smoothness heading into season .
We look forward to a productive October and to seeing some more familiar faces out on the course .
Keeping it green ,
Earl McMinn Superintendent
