LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
As the summer wears along, the focus from golf maintenance staff has been on post emergent weed control.
During the last closing of Turtle Run, most of the remaining goose grass was controlled. The work along the
lagoon bank on hole 14 began and will be completed in the next couple of weeks. Greens and fairway aerification
continues to go well. Fertilizer and sludge applications have been done on Turtle, with the focus on the back nine
due to those holes having the poorest soil conditions. Deer Run staff have been working on pruning trees and
lifting branches on oaks for turf health as well as improved playability. Fairway and green aerification has gone
smoothly on Deer. Post emergent herbicide applications on Deer are focused on goose grass and signal grass.
On both courses a few of the thin or weak areas are still left to grow in as we start to gear up in August and
September for season. We are trying to get back to some normalcy as it relates to some of the detail items around
the courses. We are trying to rebuild and rehire staff with the continued challenges of COVID-19. It has been an
interesting summer to say the least. I hope everyone, wherever you are, is staying safe. We look forward to seeing
you around the courses.
Keeping it green,
Earl McMinn
