The duo reported that they lost another cell- phone as a result. Police offi cers were dispatched to Southgate Apartments, 8100 12th Ave., at approximately 2:40 a.m. Feb. 17 after receiv- ing a phone call regarding a disturbance inside the building. Offi cers arriving at the scene located the teenagers outside of the building, who claimed they had been robbed inside, according to Blooming- ton Police Cmdr. Damon Bitney. The 17- and 16-year-old Bloomington boys, along with an 18-year-old Rich- fi eld woman, said that they drove to the apartment complex to fi nd a com- panion who had been with them earlier in the evening. While driving around, an argument broke out. The unaccounted for fourth person in their group ex- ited the vehicle outside of Bloomington and walked away. According to the re- maining members of the party, he took the Richfi eld woman’s cellphone with him, Bitney explained. The trio drove to South- gate Apartments, where they believe he lived, and the two teenagers went inside to try and locate the estranged companion. That’s when they were met by a man in the hallway. They asked the man if knew who their compan- ion was. He responded by pulling out a handgun and telling the teens to empty their pockets, the duo told the offi cers. The perpetra- tor took a cellphone from one of the teens, who said they then pushed the man and took off running, Bit- ney said. Offi cers responding to the incident did not locate the perpetrator, Bitney noted. The suspect struck the victim’s car as the vehicles were ex- iting the Mall area at Kil- lebrew Drive. The North Oaks woman pulled over along Killebrew Drive, but the suspect drove on toward the intersection of Killebrew Drive and 24th Avenue and stopped at the stoplight. The victim pulled up behind the sus- pect, who was accused of backing into the victim’s vehicle a second time, Bit- ney explained. The suspect then turned south onto Old Shakopee Road but turned into the northbound traffi c lanes. He soon abandoned his vehicle and fl ed into the nearby woods. Offi cers at the scene were able to track the man through the snow and found him in the woods, where he was ar- rested, Bitney said. He was booked on sus- picion of hit-and-run, criminal vehicular opera- tion and driving a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock system. He was booked for crim- inal vehicular operation as a result of driving while impaired at the time of the incident, and he was re- quired to have an ignition interlock system for the ve- hicle, Bitney noted. The victim and her pas- senger, a 61-year-old Ros- eville woman, reported soreness as a result of the impacts, he added. Outrun Two women accused of stealing clothing from a Mall of America store thought they could outrun police offi cers when con- fronted in the mall’s park- ing ramp. Their dash for freedom failed, and one of the women was arrested, while the other woman and a male companion were cit- ed for their involvement in the incident. Police offi cers at the mall were provided descrip- tions of two women who had been reported stealing clothing at the mall’s A’gaci store. An employee report- ed that she saw one of the women conceal multiple tank tops in a merchandise bag, while another woman concealed a tank top in her purse. The employee said the two women were part of a group of three women and two men who entered the store, and that it appeared several pairs of jeans were also missing, but she did not see anyone from the group take them, Bitney explained. The employee con- fronted the women in the store, telling them to give the merchandise back. See Police , PAGE 7
