Bloomington gallery exhibit features Scottish sculptors
The work of six Scot-
tish-based contemporary
sculptors will be featured
in a new gallery exhibit at
Bloomington Center for
the Arts.
The work of Livia
Marin, Susan O’Byrne,
James Rigler, Jonathan
Wade, Andrea Walsh and
Dawn Youll is featured in
“Urban Parallel: A Cel-
ebration of the History
and Legacy of Ceramics
in Glasgow, Scotland.”
The exhibit runs March
1-30 in the Inez Green-
berg Gallery of the arts
center, 1800 W. Old Sha-
kopee Road.
The
exhibition
is
concurrent with “Clay-
topia,” the theme of the
National Council on Edu-
cation for Ceramic Artists
conference. “Urban Par-
allel” aims to recognize
the shared industrial his-
tory and ceramic legacy
between Minneapolis and
Glasgow. The exhibition
artists have relocated their
practice to, or is associat-
ed with, Glasgow, one of
Europe’s leading creative
capitals.
Acknowledging either
the city’s past and its era
of Victorian pottery pro-
duction or its modern,
vibrant urbanism, “Ur-
ban Parallel” references
the cultural rebirth of a
post-industrial Glasgow.
The exhibition intends
to highlight the city’s rel-
evance as a creatively in-
novative, ambitious hub
with an industrial heritage
that has, in part, fostered
a contemporary ceramic
sector.
The gallery is open 8
a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays,
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays
and 1-10 p.m. Sundays.
An artist reception will
be held 5-9 p.m. Thurs-
day, March 28. O’Byrne
will lead a ceramic mas-
terclass from 9:30 a.m. to
5 p.m. March 25-26.
