The workshop equipped Directors with knowledge and ideas to lead marketing and communications teams through change at three levels: • As leaders of marketing and communications functions – planning roles, developing their teams and managing morale • When advising on the communication of change across a university – how they can best support university-wide change programmes • As members of the leadership team – how to inform management strategy and work with the leadership team to anticipate sector trends . Special Interest Group for Academic Registrars SUMS held the summer meeting of the Academic Registrars Special Interest Group in June, hosted by UCL. Hot topics on the agenda were “Transforming the Curriculum”, KPIs for Professional Services and “Implementing the requirements of the Competition & Marketing Authority”. The discussions were led by colleagues from Birmingham City University, the Universities of Hull and Leicester respectively. We had lively and vigorous debate on all of these items with a great deal of sharing of good practice, making this forum an ideal opportunity to learn from others. The meeting was supplemented by a lunchtime walkabout which included viewing various pieces of art exhibited by students, a visit to the auto-icon of Jeremy Bentham and an all too brief look around the UCL Art Museum. 72 SUMS Consulting Annual Review 2016
