2015 – 2016 Special Interest Groups Programme SUMS holds a series of Special Interest Groups intended to provide to our Members: • Peer support to colleagues new to the role • Peer support to colleagues facing challenges within their role • Specialist inputs from a range of SUMS consultants • A forum to share good practice and discuss current topics of interest • A forum to develop support networks between meetings. Special Interest Group for Marketing Directors: Leading Marketing Teams Through Change This workshop brought together a select group of university Marketing and Communications Directors to share ideas, strategies and tactics for managing change. Speakers included: • Lee Jenner Business Change Manager, UCL • Stuart Franklin Director of Marketing, Lancaster University • Helen Pennack Director of University Marketing, University of Warwick On the day attendees: • Heard from a higher education change management specialist on the principles, opportunities and pitfalls involved in overseeing complex transformation programmes in the sector • Discussed case studies from Marketing Directors about their experience of leading through change • Fed into the design and development of a new framework that will support Marketing and Communications Directors in assessing the maturity of their functions • Were able to put their own question or challenge to peers facing similar issues.
