SUMS Annual Review 2016 2016 | Page 59

1758 - Post Implementation Review The assignment reviewed the project that introduced agile working in to some Professional Services divisions at UCL. Agile working means adopting new practices and significant cultural changes, with staff needing to adapt to new policies and ways of working. We asked staff about their experiences to date, and made recommendations to enable UCL to further develop agile working in the divisions already impacted. By drawing on lessons learnt from the project, we identified best practice for the smooth introduction of agile working in to new divisions. 1760 – Surplus Generation SUMS continues to support UCL with its work on diversifying income generation. UWE BRISTOL 1677 – HR Structure Comparative Review UWE Bristol had already carried out some quantitative benchmarking which raised a number of questions and asked SUMS to extend this to provide more direction. We recommended an approach which included using a qualitative service maturity model that SUMS had already developed. Working with UWE Bristol and the University of Hertfordshire we extended this model and developed a complementary quantitative model. More Members completed the combined survey which provided the insights needed to progress. 1789 - Developing Business Processes – MARCOMMS UWE Bristol is currently restructuring its marketing and communications function following the review conducted by SUMS in 2015. During this transition period, SUMS was asked to assist with a ‘quick-fix’ review to develop short-term business processes that would prevent bottlenecks and clarify internal decisionmaking responsibilities within the marketing department. The project, which was delivered in just two weeks, applied business process mapping techniques to provide a detailed analysis of the existing workflow problems and recommended immediate short-term changes to improve departmental planning and accelerate decision-making.
