1744 – Review of FM Services to the Mathematics Institute
The Royal Observatory Quarter is a major development site for the University of Oxford that is being
developed gradually as academic need demands. The expectation is that the site should operate on a centrally
FM managed basis. The Mathematics Institute moved to the site in 2012 and the Division and Estates
Services recommended that a review be undertaken to explore current service delivery and client
interactions to ensure that an effective service is in place and value for money obtained.
The University recharges the actual cost of FM services; there is no profit element added. However, FM
service provision will only be considered value for money if the standard of service is in balance with the
charge. We found the overall standard of service provision, as evidenced by management reports and user
feedback on the current provision, is good. Lessons learned will inform future transitions to centralised models.
1761 – Security Support Services
SUMS was asked to review the Oxford University Security Support Services and bring forward proposals
to enhance support and deliver efficiencies. After interviewing stakeholders, options were identified to
redistribute tasks more effectively and streamline some activities. These will shortly be developed further
with the management team.
