1693 – Timetabling Follow-up This assignment was a short piece that complemented the SUMS Timetabling health-check. A SUMS consultant provided practical advice on how Leeds could make better use of the timetabling software. 1754 – Review of Capital Projects Business Case Process & Paperwork The University of Leeds asked SUMS to review and help improve the University’s capital project approval process. The University wanted to ensure that the process worked effectively during a phase of significant strategic ambition where a large number of potential projects with different strategic drivers need to be prioritised within the overall capital funding programme. This assignment complemented the support SUMS had provided the University around creating a new investment appraisal process. SUMS reviewed the University’s current approach and examined how this worked in practice using recent project examples. We identified significant variation in the scale, type and complexity of projects and helped the University to create a simplified process with the flexibility to handle a variety of projects. We worked closely with the University’s Estates team to ensure that the new process aligned with the RIBA design stages and key project gateways. We provided the University with our proposal for a simplified and clear stage and gate process and identified where the University would need to develop and clarify roles to make the process work effectively.
