UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS
1640 – Timetable Health Check
SUMS supported the University’s advancement of timetabling by undertaking the SUMS health check and
developing options to realise potential benefits. The outcome was a roadmap to enhance timetabling that will
help ensure:
• Students continue to have a good experience
• Estate development can be informed by scenario-planning and accurate data on capacity - both current
and future needs
• Space utilisation is improved
• The University is able to fulfil its commitment to broadening the curriculum by making transparent the
effect of change upon the timetable and its constraints and the capacity in the system
• The timetabling process is sufficiently agile to respond to future needs.
1665 – Sport Pricing Review
SUMS was asked to review the financial model for student sport and physical activity at the University and
to put forward options for funding and pricing models which enable the achievement of strategic objectives
whilst addressing the cost of provision to students.
A map was drawn up to show the flow of various tangible and intangible resources between the University,
the Students’ Union, and the student. Quantitative and qualitative data was collated to build an
understanding of the impact of these resources. A benchmark study was conducted with a number of
institutions across the Russell Group.
Recommendations were made to reduce the cost of participation in participative and representative activities.
