Summons Summer 2016 | Page 2

Happy Spring! By the time you are reading this issue of the Summons spring should finally have arrived. I was beginning to wonder if we would see April showers, it was looking pretty bleak. Luckily the last week has brought abundant rain, so hopefully we will see some May flowers soon. Let the sun come out and let the growing season begin!

Congratulations to Mary Sue Knutson, CLA, Afton Basden, CP, and the Region II Spring Seminar Planning Committee for a very successful Spring Seminar. The seminar was held on April 21, 2016, at the Sleep Inn and Suites in Minot. The Committee did a wonderful job planning the seminar and the speakers were outstanding. The day flew by and I brought back a lot of useful information to work. I am still thinking of all the ways that I am not being aware and protecting myself every day thanks to Margie Zietz’s “Self-Protection-Workplace Safety” presentation.

The WDALA Spring Board meeting was held on April 21, 2016. Please see the various officer reports for information. I would like to draw your attention to the Parliamentarian’s Report for information regarding the bylaw and standing rule amendments which will be presented for approval at the Annual Meeting on September 14, 2016.

The Board also approved the nomination of the Region II Spring Seminar Planning Committee for the NALA Affiliate Award. The Committee consists of Co-Chairs, Mary Sue Knutson, CLA, and Afton Basden, CP, and members Lorelee Clay, Becky Hillerud, Debi Osterby, Donna Seright, and Mitzi Sundheim. The Region II Spring Seminar Planning Committee will be recognized at the NALA Convention in July and is automatically nominated for the NALA Outstanding Contribution Award. Good luck!

In the February issue of the Summons I challenged you to pledge to do one thing to improve your legal assistant/paralegal career. Have you been able to meet the challenge? I hope you have found success. If not, why not start again? There are a many ways you can improve your career, come to the Fall Seminar, take an online course, sit for the CP exam. There are a number of things you can do to better yourself and WDALA is here to assist you. Feel free to contact me or any of the Officers and Board Members with questions.

Each day is a new beginning, take a deep breath and start again. Keep on trying and never stop learning ……you CAN DO IT!
