Language Arts / Study Skills Animated Readers and Writers Improve reading skills while writing as you create an illustrated journal or alphabet book, write a play, poem or song, and more in this project-based class. Singing, movement, and theater games inspire and motivate reading and writing. Grades 1 – 4 Period 1 Session One or Two Tuition $120 Prep for Middle School This three-week course will focus on improving a student’s reading and writing skills. Students will grow as writers and be challenged to analyze different writings. Students will also strengthen and harness their essential math skills, providing them with abilities and confidence for the upcoming year. Grades 5 – 8 1 – 3:45 p.m. Session One or Two Tuition $250 Scary Stories in Writing and Film Create your own scary story by exploring the unknown. Listen to scary tales and watch scary movies (PG-13) then put your own scary ideas onto paper using words in many fun and different ways. Grades 6 – 8 Period 2 Session One or Two Tuition $120 Newspaper and Journalism Produce a newspaper for each session of SummerPrep. Learn the basics of newspaper production, how to interview folks, write stories and become an official news hound. Grades 3 – 5 Period 4 Grades 6 – 8 Period 3 Session One or Two Tuition $120 GPA+ Solutions Dr. Gerry Lozeau Ph.D. This study skills workshop for middle and high school students will be offered daily for two hours during the week of June 10 – 14. The instructor, Dr. Gerry Lozeau Ph.D., has worked with Sandia Prep since 1989 (see www.gpaplussolutions.com). The primary focus of the workshop is teaching students how to read and study academic material. Emphasis is placed on note-making, pre-reading, and study systems, working together to promote active learning. Better reading strategies, efficient use of study time, and increased focus in the classroom enhance learning opportunities for all students. Improving comprehension and retention of academic material is realized by utilizing best practices and habits at the middle school, high school, and college levels.
