“ On June 6th and 7th , eight 9th graders from Pre-AP Algebra 2 were chosen to represent SLAS for the Math Olympiad event at Harrow this year . The students were divided into team one and team two , with team two consisting of John , Drishti , Grace , and myself . In the two days , we explored various aspects of math and experienced many engaging activities . The events included duel , codebreaker , individual math , auction , team pursuit , tires of Hanoi , darts , countdown , construction , lunch , and bbq . These events allowed the students to learn while doing math and having fun , improving their creativity . SLAS team two eventually ended up receiving gold medals for auction and darts , while receiving bronze medal for individual .

From these events , the team had to collaborate and use mathematical and strategic plans to achieve victory . We ended up finishing auction with the most profit , using various strategies , such as last-minute deals , since if the sellers and buyers don ’ t make transactions at the end of the time limit , they cannot do anything but lose money , so we got some very good deals by applying this technique . Also , we used economical strategies such as bidding high prices while not buying as we were investors , to increase the value the sellers are selling at , so our opponents will lose their money . Also , we used the advertisement technique of showcasing high-value items while selling low-value items , which were our main source of revenue . For the darts event , we came up with a very good tactical plan , to shoot the darts as fast as possible at first , and ended up getting first place by finishing in just 5 minutes . For other events , we found it relatively harder , but we still managed to do our best and learned communication , creativity , debating , persuading , and mathematical skills .
