Academic Camps
ALGEBRA REFRESHER
Students who could use an Algebra 1 refresher are invited to take part in
this non-credit class. Topics will switch each day and may include but are
not limited to solving equations, linear functions, factoring, inequalities, and
radicals. Prior exposure to these topics in an Algebra 1 class is required. The
class will be formatted to include direct instruction, practice, and activities that
support the day’s focus. Steward students interested in knowing how camp
hours can count toward tutoring requirements, please coordinate with the
Center for the Advancement of Learning.

PREPARING FOR HIGH SCHOOL WRITING AND READING
During this class, students will focus on academic writing in addition to
completing several five-paragraph essays. They will explore the writing process,
complete multiple drafts of their writing, and learn the skills of editing and
revising. Basic mechanical, grammatical, and usage rules will be reviewed. This
class is intended for beginning writing students, those who need extra help
with writing, or those new to the Steward Upper School. Students will also be
given strategies to become better active readers.
