» 1970 This was a year of great turmoil. Members felt the organization needed a new direction and a house cleaning of Executive Committee members. The secondary coaches were also requesting a larger role in the Association since they were the largest segment of the membership.
» 1971-1980 | Annual Convention The annual convention was held in 7 different cities. A Treasurer was added to the Executive Committee and a new Marketing Committee was formed. The All-America program was expanded to include secondary schools. A complete overhaul of the Constitution was taken on by the NSCAA Legislative Committee and a National Advisory Board and two-year term for the President were part of the changes.
» 1972 | 1st Non-NYC Convention First convention held outside of New York City. Over 300 people gathered for a spectacular lineup of speakers and clicnicans put together by John McKeon, the convention manager. McKeon also had a charter flight to St. Louis for coaches from the east coach to attend the event.
» 1973 | Annual Convention Back to New York City – this was the first attempt of the NSCAA to bring together the major soccer organizations in the country. A luncheon was held for members of the executive committee of NSCAA, ISFA, USSFA and NISOA. The goal was to foster

» 1973 Established Coach of the Year awards for Men’ s Division I Soccer.
» 1976 USSF was granted a seat on the NSCAA Executive Committee.
» 1978 NSCAA signed a three-year deal with NASL Marketing Inc., an exclusively soccer-oriented agency. » 1979 Plans for the reorganization and the NSCAA Constitution and Bylaws were submitted to membership through Soccer Journal. 30-and 40-year membership pins were awarded. Joint effort with the Ethics Committee of NSCAA and ISAA to rewrite a code of ethics started.
1980s
» 1980 Robert Nye, The“ Constitution President” put the new constitution into operation for the membership. The new constitution creates the office of Executive Director when funded properly. It would be the change that set the Association on a new course of growth and service.

» 1980 Tim Schum named editor of the Soccer Journal.
» 1981 National Advisory Board announced John McKeon as the Executive Director of the NSCAA, replacing the Executive Secretary position previously held by Bob DiGrazia. National Advisory Board replaced the Executive Committee-- 19-member board includes eight regional reps, three at-large and the officers. NSCAA and USYS agree to co-sponsor a series of youth coaching clinics in each of the eight NSCAA regions
» 1982 | Women’ s Soccer Established College Coach of the Year award for Division I Women’ s Soccer.
» 1983 Convention held in Orlando, Florida, allowing the first-ever outdoor clinic sessions. Membership now over 3,000.
» 1984 First coaching academies were offered at Duke University, Quincy College and the University of Tampa. Over 100 coaches were in attendance between the three locations. Jim Lennox named Director of Coaching – aided by the Coaching Committee of Peter Gooding, Jeff Vennell and Tom Fleck.
» 1986 Top priority was to update and implement a revised constitution and by-laws. A review showed a need for organizational flow charts to be developed. New membership record-- 4,601. Convention attendance-- 1,100. Soccer Journal circulation-- 29,500 for the year. Goal set for membership to pass 5,000.
» 1989 | Annual Convention in Philadelphia First time the registration crew was referred to as the“ Red Aprons.”
