Boys Engage With Authors
Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Book Awardwinning author Jerry Craft shared his experience as a graphic novel writer with the boys in Grades Six , Seven , and Eight in May . His books , New Kid and its sequel Class Act , follow the events of a boy managing his transition to a new secondary school and deals with the importance of friendships . Boys learned that telling a story visually with little text requires the writer / artist to be extremely detail-oriented in a laborious process . The session was the final in our Parents Association Author Series , which brings published authors to the school to engage with boys in all grade levels about the art and craft of writing and publishing . Previous author visits included Dan Elish , Sujean Rim , and Simran Jeet Singh .
Jerry Craft visits with boys via Zoom .
