9 out of 10 participants in the drought
activation in Honduras reported
improvements in their quality of life
n July 2023, the
Honduran Red Cross activated for the first time
its Early Action Plan (EAP) on the drought associated with the El Niño Phenomenon,
in the dry corridor of
Honduras. This intervention assisted 360 families
(on two occasions) in the communities of Liure, Texiguat and Apacilagua,
who received financial support to face the potential impacts of the drought.
In addition, more than 1,700 household water purification kits were delivered as anticipatory actions.
In February 2024, the National Society, with the support of the German Red Cross, conducted a community evaluation of the actions promoted in the activation, based on a random and representative sample. Among the key findings, 87% of the people surveyed indicated that the financial assistance improved their quality of life during the drought (9 out of every 10 participants).
On the other hand, 53% of the participants expressed that the aid only covered most or part of their needs. The assessment's evidence shows that the early actions reduced the probability where families would have to adopt emergency coping strategies.
