Feasibility Study

is a tool to analyze the feasibility for the development of an Anticipatory Action mechanism. In August 2024, the Dominican Red Cross

led an internal and external consultation exercise.

For instance, the National Society identified the most relevant institutional actors in dealing with crises

related to tropical cyclones and drought in the Dominican Republic.

Secondary sources were documented for the study, as well as the challenges

and opportunities for the potential Early Action Plans.

Among some of the key recommendations, a close coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) and the National Emergency Commission (CNE), is essential to anticipate the impacts of tropical cyclones and droughts. Likewise, the collaboration with the United Nations agencies and other international organizations was also identified as crucial. Among the sectors where early actions could be focused include health, Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI), livelihoods, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WaSH), shelter, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
