ith the participation of
6 representatives from the Peruvian Red Cross, Ecuadorian Red Cross, Guatemalan Red Cross, Honduran Red Cross, Nicaraguan Red Cross and Costa Rican Red Cross, the first regional meeting between Information Management and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialists from the FbF LAC Regional Program was held in Lima, Peru, from September 6 to the 11th.
The event promoted the exchange of concepts and tools among the technical staff of the National Societies that are implementing the FbF mechanism to design and operate GIS oriented to monitoring and risk assessment in the face of climate and non-climate hazards.
Among the topics addressed during the meeting were: discussion on risk concepts and model, design of activation mechanisms, analysis and experience of the Sangay volcano activation in Ecuador, National Societies' needs assessment, formats and tools for mapping development, among others.
As part of the event, the Regional Network of Information Management and GIS Specialists was officially established.
Klaus Wiese, regional officer for Information Management of the German Red Cross shared that "through the network we will continue promoting these type of initiatives to strengthen capacities, innovate, collaborate and support our colleagues in the Americas".
