Being inventive, breaking the mold, and taking risks are things
that take grit…a quality that too few people possess. Fitzroy
Ferguson’s grit and inventive mind have paved the way for his
unequivocal success in the castor industry. His story is one
that teaches us to look beyond the surface and see the
boundless potential in things that are seemingly simple. I
caught up with him recently to learn more about his business
and the plans he has for the future.
WHY JALDON ENTERPRISES?
Fitzroy knows the ins and outs of corporate life. He worked for
21 years with Softsheen Carson Jamaica and was the
company’s regional marketing manager. After they
transitioned the business to Puerto Rico, he didn’t want to
return to the corporate life. Instead, he wanted to do
something on his own and began toying around with ideas of
what he could do.
His family had some land so it seemed logical for him to go into
farming. However, he didn’t know which crop to choose. While
still grappling with the decision, he was invited to a program at
JAMPRO where a presentation was done about the castor
industry. Things started clicking in his head; he could identify
ways to link this crop to his cosmetic background. The fact that
castor was a crop immune from praedial larceny made it even
more attractive. He began his castor farm in Port Maria soon
after and the rest is history.
