Woodstock was the symbol of the 1960s. Being one of the most celebrated festivals in our history, Woodstock changed music festivals around the world. It was created and formed by John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Michael Lang and their families. Woodstock took place from August 15th through August 18th, 1969. Over half a million people showed up to hear many of the most famous artists in this time period. Performers included the brilliant Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Greatful Dead, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Rivival, Quil, Santana, Sha-Na-Na, and more as the list goes on.

The summer of 1969 became known as the “Summer of Peace and Love." Many of the people that went to Woodstock considered themselves “hippies.” A "hippie" is simply a person that expresses themselves through love and their casual clothes that mainly consist of beads, headbands, and bright colors. They reject institutions and the average social life. Most of all, "hippies" searched for spotany and fun. They would do what they felt like doing when they wanted to if they could. How fun must it have been being a hippie?

The "Three Days of Peace and Music" of Woodstock symbolized the three days of fabulous performances, rain and mud, and meaningful experiences that helped the Woodstock Music and Art Fair become the symbol of an entire generation in the 1960s.

Woodstock is a symbol of peace, openness, cultural expresslooked for spotany and fun. They would do what they felt like doing when they wanted to if they could. How fun must it have been being a hippie?n, and the unity of a generation and how they can be heard and make a difference.
