Music of the 1960s was a revolution that occured during this decade. It was a time of rebellion, oposition, and where the younger generation was questioning everything from corporations, and the government to family, frinds, and many elders. Popular music in the 60s had become a part of introducing causes influenced by the sexual revolution, feminism, environmentalism, and Black Power. Black Power is what people called the racial pirde throughout African Americans during the 60s and 70s.

The music revolution took place as a massive public unrest in the U.S. occured. The unrest was because of the Cold War, Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights Movement.

The 60s started with soul music topping the charts. Soon after there were different styls of soul including: girl groups, blue-eyed soul, brown-eyed soul, Memphis soul, Philly soul and, especially Motown groups. Jame Brown and Marvin Gaye were largly popular in this genre at this time. They practically invented the music known as Funk.

Modern music in the 1960s was dominated by a country sound known as the Bakersfield sound. For some time, the Bakersfield sound was the only music that could keep up in music sales against the multitude of British bands, known as a part of the "British Invasion."

Psychedelic rock came from British cultures. Psychedelic music is against the Vietnam War and supported civil rights and other causes. Suprisingly, psychedelic music would turn into heavy metal, punk rock, and progressive rock all within the 1960s and 1970s.
